Digital Desk: Karimganj police seized 2400 kg worth of ganja (cannabis) near the Assam-Tripura border on Saturday . The Karimganj police arrested two in connection with the case out of which one is a resident of Punjab.
The police blocked the 18-wheeler goods carrier truck carrying cannabis-loaded drums at the Naka check point on National Highway-8.
Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said in a tweet on Sunday morning. "In a huge recovery last night by Churaibari Watch Post staff along the Assam-Tripura border.
Police detained a truck coming from a neighbouring state and seized 2,400 kg of ganja (cannabis) tucked away in drums. Two accused were apprehended.
"The cultivation of cannabis must be huge because in the last few months, we have seized over 10,000 kg. "We are not allowing any trade in ganja in our territory, but the arrested persons said that they were assigned to transport it to other states," said the superintendent of Karimganj police, Padmanabh Baruah.
Karimganj police recently seized over 3,000 kg of cannabis during an inspection of three different cases. Baruah said that there is a huge cultivation of cannabis in Tripura and police in that state are also trying to combat this issue.
