Guwahati: Kaziranga National Park, a world heritage site in Assam, will conduct an annual waterfowl census in December. The national park officials stated that the Census would be carried out on December 20 and 21.
The primary objectives of the Census will be to count and record the waterfowl and winter-migratory birds and monitor and assess the health of wetlands.
The Field Director of Kaziranga National Park, P Sivakumar, stated that the Census would cover the birds roaming in the water bodies and wetlands.

Moreover, the Census will cover around 35 regions of the reservoir for counting. The bird census will be accomplished with the assistance of binoculars, range finders and GPS in association with bird specialists and volunteers.
For the first time in 2019, 11,500 aquatic birds were found in the first test census. In the third annual Census in 2021, 93,491 birds from 112 different species belonging to 22 families were counted.
