Kopili River reaches danger level, putting Assam's Kampur in perilous condition

Digital Desk: The flooding situation in Assam's Kampur remains worrisome on Sunday, with the Kopili River flowing over the danger level.

According to reports, the Kopili River has risen past its danger threshold due to bad weather and heavy rains.

Meanwhile, the opening of the dam gates at the Khandong dam in Dima Hasao's Umrangso has resulted in flooding in Kampur.

Furthermore, it has come to light that some communities have been flooded as a result of the Kopili River's rising water levels.

Furthermore, transit has been badly impacted by flooding, which has cut off access to these villages. As a result, the peasants are in difficulty.

On Friday, the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO) opened six gates of the Khandong Dam at Umrangso in Assam's Dima Hasao.

Following reports, the decision to release the dam gates was made after the water levels in the Khargol and Kopili Rivers went beyond their capacity due to heavy rains across Assam and the Northeast.

Last year, an accident at NEEPCO's 75-megawatt plant suspended all operations, and it remains thus to this day.

The hydropower project is still being repaired. In contrast, the Kopili River's water level has surged over hazardous thresholds as a result of the state's recent heavy rains.

The district administration ran campaigns to warn individuals living along the river's banks to move to safer areas. The authorities also warned them to take safeguards.
