Digital Desk: Just two days after fishing activities at beels across Kaziranga National Park in Assam were prohibited, several villagers were spotted fishing at the Haldhibari area of the national park on Saturday morning, violating Section 144 imposed in the area.
Notably, the Kaliabor sub-division administration in the Nagaon district of Assam announced on Thursday the imposition of the prohibitory provisions under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) ahead of Bhogali Bihu.
Hundreds of locals were reportedly spotted fishing early this morning at a beel in the Kohora Forest Range, near Kaziranga National Park. As a result, Section 144—which prohibits gatherings of five or more individuals near bodies of water in the area—was violated.
Police and district administration have reportedly arrived at the spot to keep an eye on the situation.
Section 144 was decided to be implemented with the preservation of biodiversity and natural resources of Kaziranga National Park in mind.
According to sources, all regions falling under the Burhapahar forest range, as well as Potali Beel, Deusur, Ghorakati, Tunikati, and Deupani, will be liable to the demands of Section 144.
