Digital Desk: The Gauhati High Court on Thursday dismissed the anticipatory bail request of two additional ACS officers charged in Rajya Sabha MP Ajit Kumar Bhuyan's Members of Parliament Local Area Development (MPLAD) funds scams. The two ACS officers were Sukanya Borah and Hemanta Kumar Dutta, both Additional Commissioners of Kamrup Metropolitan.

Earlier on Wednesday, the court denied bail for Sharmistha Borah, an ACS officer who was also involved in the fund scam. She served as the Assam government's secretary for the home and political departments.

Reportedly, Sharmistha Borah appeared before CM Special Vigilance today for interrogation in the MPLAD money corruption case.

Meanwhile, the court will hear the permanent bail hearing in connection with the case on May 22 and ordered the police to file a case diary on the same.

ACS officers were suspended on March 18 in link with a financial scandal in Assam.

According to reports, money has been allocated from MP Bhuyan's MPLAD budget for the construction of a road in Assam's Barpeta. But the bill was released without 75% of the work being finished.

The scam came to light after an inquiry by the CM's Special Vigilance cell revealed that the four suspended officers signed the bill before 75% of the road construction work was finished.

The four ACS officers that have been suspended are Home and Political Department, Assam, Secretary Sharmistha Borah, Kamrup Metropolitan Additional Commissioner Sukanya Borah, Hemanta Kumar Dutta, and Tinsukia Zila Parishad CEO Munindra Bordoloi.
