Digital Desk: The Manipur government has taken the decision to implement the "no work, no pay" policy for its employees in an effort to entice them back to the workplace.
As per reports, the General Administration Department (GAD) has been asked to provide information on employees who are not attending their work owing to the situation in Manipur.
According to a notification issued on Monday by GAD Secretary Michael Achom, "In accordance with the meeting chaired by the Chief Minister on June 12 and decision taken at para 5-(12) of the proceedings, all employees drawing their salaries from the General Administration Department, Manipur Secretariat are informed that no work, no pay may be invoked to all those employees who do not attend their official duty without authorised leave."
Manipur has about one lakh state government employees.

Moreover, the circular asked all administrative secretaries to "furnish details of those employees who failed to attend their official duty due to the prevailing situation in the state, indicating the details of employees such as designation, name, EIN, present address, to the General Administration Department and to the Personnel Department, latest by June 28 so that appropriate and necessary action can be taken."
It should be noted that more than 100 people have been killed in Manipur's ethnic strife between the Meitei and Kuki populations.
On May 3, disputes erupted in the aftermath of a 'Tribal Solidarity March' staged in the hill districts to protest the Meitei community's desire for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status.
Meiteis comprise around 53% of Manipur's population and dwell mainly in the Imphal valley. On the other hand, tribals, including Nagas and Kukis, make up the remaining 40% of the population and live mainly in the hill districts.
