Digital Desk: At least 15 people were injured after suspected Kuki militants armed with powerful weapons and bombs attacked two villages in Manipur's Imphal West district on Saturday, June 3.

State police and Manipur Rifles forces stationed at the two villages - Phayeng and Kangchup Chingkhong - retaliated resulting in a four-hour exchange of fire on Friday night that pushed the militants back into nearby hills, the police said.

The injured have been admitted at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences and Raj Medicity in Imphal, where the condition of the two injured is reported to be critical.

There have also been reports of fresh attacks in the last twenty-four hours from Pombikhok in the Bishnupur district, although no casualties or injuries have been reported.

A joint team of Manipur Police, Border Security Force, and Assam Rifles recovered seven bodies from the Sugnu-Serou area of Kakching district.

The government stated in a statement on Friday that ethnic violence in the state that erupted a month ago killed at least 98 people and injured 310 others.
