Digital Desk: A massive fire broke out in the Marwari Patti region of Assam's Jorhat district on the night of December 21.
The huge blaze burned all night and was not totally extinguished until the morning of December 23, Thursday. The presence of many cooking gas cylinders in the area fueled the raging inferno even more.
The cause of the fire is yet unknown. Aside from the state's fire and emergency services from various places in the Jorhat area, emergency vehicles from the Indian Air Force also assisted in damage control efforts.
The district's Marwari Patti sector is a vital commercial hub for not just Jorhat but also the surrounding areas, including parts of the Sivasagar and Majluli districts. It is also in a very vital area of Jorhat town, which means that transportation in the entire region would be disrupted. To avoid any unexpected incidents, the region's energy supply has also been cut off.
The Jorhat district Deputy Commissioner has ordered an investigation into the situation.
More information on the incident is awaited.
