Digital Desk: In an effort to improve the education system of the state, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the abolition of matriculation exams in the state. The decision is part of the state's adherence to the National Education Policy (NEP) and intends to offer students a smooth transition from Class 10 to higher education.
As per the new guidelines, there will be no separate matriculation examinations in Assam. Instead, the school administration will be in charge of conducting assessments, including class unit tests, for Class 10 students. This move allows students to move directly to classes 11 and 12 after clearing their class 10 exams, eliminating the need for a second board examination.
Speaking to the media, CM Sarma said, "From now on, there will be no such examinations as matriculation or matric exams. The emphasis will be on a pass/fail system within the school itself. The decision has been made to guarantee that students can resume their studies for Classes 11 and 12 immediately after finishing Class 10."
In order to implement this educational overhaul, the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) and the Board of Secondary Education Assam (SEBA) would come together to establish a single organization. The goal of this merger is to reduce administrative processes and maintain a consistent approach to secondary and upper-secondary education.
