Digital Desk: Guwahati residents were jolted by a shocking revelation after authorities intercepted a pickup van laden with barrels of water and packets of powdered milk masquerading as pure cow milk. The van, prominently displaying a sign claiming to sell genuine cow milk, was seized in the Paltanbazar locality following suspicions raised by vigilant locals.
Upon investigation, it was discovered that the van had been secretly distributing adulterated milk for an extended period, deceiving a large number of unsuspecting customers. When confronted, the occupants attempted to flee, resulting in the capture of the driver and one accomplice while two others escaped.
The adulterated milk, purportedly from 'Brihatta Guwahati Go-Palak Sangstha,' Amsingh Jorabat Branch, was priced at Rs 70 per litre. Santosh Kumar, identified as the main culprit, has been arrested, while another key suspect, Gopal Chetry, remains at large.
Residents, deeply disturbed by the discovery, expressed grave concerns, especially regarding the health implications for consumers, including children.
The apprehended individuals are currently under interrogation at Paltan Bazar police station, with authorities launching a thorough investigation into the adulteration racket. The incident has underscored the critical need for stringent measures to safeguard food quality and consumer trust in the city.
