Following the recovery of the dead-body, the Guwahati police and Meghalaya police have jointly started an investigation into the suspected murder case. The Paltan Bazar police have now summoned Joulen Nongtigiri, the Khasi girlfriend of the victim for questioning.

As per sources, Sandeep had taken an EMI (equal monthly installment) from a person. Sources have quoted that the boy was also facing mental pressure due to mounting debt on him. The police suspect some unidentified person might have kidnapped Sandeep and killed him for monetary issues.
