New twist in Guwahati child abuse case: Dr Sangeeta Dutta files complaint against her manager

In connection with the case, the Paltan Bazar police on Monday filed a charge sheet against her and her husband, doctor Waliul Islam.

Digital Desk: The child abuse case in Guwahati took a new turn as the accused, Dr Sangeeta Datta, who is currently in jail, has reportedly lodged a complaint against her manager at Paltan Bazar police station stating that they have been framed by the latter.

According to reports, Dr. Datta claimed in her complaint that Riju Roy, her manager, was the one who sexually assaulted the two minors, not them. She asserted that the mentioned manager had set her and her husband accused.

According to sources, Datta filed the complaint inside her cell, and the police have yet to file it.

In connection with the case, the Paltan Bazar police on Monday filed a charge sheet against her and her husband, doctor Waliul Islam.

The doctor couple had previously been accused of being involved in a child abuse case, and the issue came to light after child rights activist Miguel Das Queah spoke about it on social media.

The doctor couple allegedly tied their adopted daughter to their terrace in the scorching heat as punishment for misbehaving. They were detained on May 5 of this year.

According to the police, the couple has been charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act. Later, the doctors, Dr. Waliul Islam, a surgeon, and Dr. Sangeeta Datta, a psychiatrist, were taken into custody by police along with their domestic help, who was taken into judicial custody.

One of the minor girls had multiple injuries all over her body.

According to the authorities, a medical investigation showed that her private areas had been burned with cigarettes.

Diganta Barah, the commissioner of police in Guwahati, stated, "The minor child was held captive on the fourth floor of the medical couple's home in Roma Enclave. The three-year-old girl was bruised over her body and had burns and cuts on her privates. Additionally, it was discovered during the medical examination that her private areas had been harmed by cigarettes. "

"All three defendants—including their maid Lakshmi Nath—have been taken into custody. They appeared before the chief judicial magistrate's court in Guwahati on Sunday, where they were sentenced to five days in police imprisonment for the couple and seven days in judicial custody for the maid, Laxmi Nath.

According to the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the couple has been detained," he added.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had earlier directed Assam Police to conduct a thorough probe into the alleged child abuse case in Guwahati and wrap it up within the next six months. A charge sheet must be submitted by the Assam police within the next 45 days, the chief minister further said.
He pledged to ask the Gauhati High Court chief judge for a special court to hear the alleged child abuse case.

"I am personally keeping track of this child abuse issue, and I anticipate that the inquiry will be finished in the upcoming six months. Several provisions, including portions under the POCSO act, have been slapped on the pair. To request a special court to hear this issue, I shall personally write to the chief justice of the Gauhati High Court. I have ordered the Assam police to file the charge sheet within a month or the next 45 days," the chief minister stated.
