Nagaon: Yet another employee of Nagaon Paper Mill under Hindustan Paper Corporation Limited (HPCL) died on Saturday, with the number of death reach to 92 including four suicides since the closure of two HPCL mills a report said.
As per the report, the deceased employee Dharani Saikia aged 61, died of a heart attack, earlier, Saikia was suffering from diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease.
Joint Action Committee of Recognised Unions (JACRU) President Manbendra Chakraborty claimed that Saikia lost his life because he did not get proper medical facilities due to a financial crunch.
Chakraborty also added that this is the sixth death in the last two and a half months after CM Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma assumed the CM office.
Moreover, Chakraborty claimed that the other employees of HPCL had died because of lack of proper medical facility and starvation as well as due to lack of concern from both Central and State governments.
Notably, the two paper mills i.e, Cachar Paper Mill and Nagaon Paper Mill have been closed since October 2015 and March 2017. Moreover, the employees of both the paper mills did not receive their salaries for 55 months as per the report.
