    PM Modi Inaugurates Projects worth Rs 2,450 crore in Meghalaya

    Digital Desk: As part of the North Eastern Council's (NEC) golden jubilee festivities on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated, inaugurated, and laid the cornerstone for a number of projects totaling Rs 2,450 crores in Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya.

    In an effort to further improve telecom coverage in the area, PM Modi dedicated 4G mobile towers to the region, of which more than 320 have already been finished and about 890 are in the planning stages.

    In addition, PM Modi opened IIM Shillong's New Campus at Umsawli and Shillong-Diengpasoh Road, which would improve connection to the brand-new Shillong satellite township and relieve congestion in Shillong. In addition, Modi opened four other road projects in Meghalaya, Manipur, and Arunachal Pradesh.

    PM Modi opened the Spawn Laboratory at the Meghalaya Mushroom Development Center in conjunction with the event, which will help to increase the production of mushroom spawn and give farmers and business owners skill training.

    PM Modi also opened an integrated beekeeping development centre in Meghalaya to enhance the livelihood of beekeeping farmers via capacity building and technological advancement.
    Notably, PM Modi opened 21 Hindi libraries in Assam, Mizoram, Manipur, and Tripura.

    Six more road projects in the states of Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura also had their cornerstones set by the prime minister.

    Golden jubilee celebrations of North Eastern Council (NEC) in Shillong

    During the occasion, the foundation stone for the Tura and Shillong Technology Park Phase-Integrated II's Hospitality and Convention Center was also set. The built-up area of the Technology Park Phase-II will be roughly 1.5 lakh square feet. According to a formal announcement, it would give professionals new options and is predicted to generate more than 3000 jobs.
    A convention hub, guest rooms, a food court, etc. will be included in the Integrated Hospitality and Convention Center. According to the statement, it will give the area the infrastructure needed to promote tourism and highlight the region's unique legacy.

    On the occasion, other dignitaries were Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma, Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju, Nagaland Chief Minister Nephiu Rio, and Union Tourism and DoNER Minister G Kishan Reddy.

    It should be mentioned that the NEC was formally established on November 7, 1972. In addition to supporting several infrastructure projects and other development efforts in all states of the region, NEC has played a significant role in the socioeconomic development of the North Eastern region. 

    Particularly in crucial gap areas in sectors like education, health, sports, water resources, agriculture, tourism, and industry, among others, it has helped generate important capital and social infrastructure.
