Digital Desk: Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi will visit Tripura on January 4, 2022. PM Modi will be inaugurating the new terminal building of Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport in Agartala.
Chief Minister (CM) of Tripura, Biplab Deb, made an announcement regarding the upcoming event of the inauguration of the MBB terminal building.
CM Biplab Deb has informed that the Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiradiya Scindia will be present at the inauguration event. Moreover, the senior officials of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) would likewise accompany the event.
According to sources, the new terminal building cost ₹3,400 crores for completion. The building has been built on a 0.03 square kilometer area in the southern end of the current airport building.
The latest facilities of the new terminal include full-body scanners and modern aprons. Further, these facilities will provide ease of travel experiences for the passengers.
CM Deb has informed reporters, " I have received a call from the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) ensuring the PM's visit to Tripura to inaugurate the new terminal building of Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport, second busiest in the Northeast. Similarly, he will also address a public rally at Vivekananda Ground on the same day."
AAI chairman Arvind Singh looked after the entire progress work of the new terminal building. On December 15, Singh visited Tripura to review the final progress of work at the new terminal building.
The new terminal consists of 20 check-in counters. The building will further accommodate around 1,200 passengers. Airport officials have informed that Agartala airport is one of the busiest airports in the northeastern region.
Moreover, this new terminal will help clear the rush in the Agartala Airport. The rush takes place due to a handsome number of Bangladeshi passengers who take flights from Agartala to reach other parts of the nation.
