Guwahati: A meeting of the Kamrup City District Road Safety Committee was held today at the district deputy commissioner's auditorium to address several significant issues to decrease the number of road accidents and deaths.
In the meeting, district transport officer Gautam Das has issued regulations to the Road Protection Committee for protection and safety. He has also asked the road protection departments to cooperate well to execute the regulations. He further asked the departments to look upon the speed limit management.
Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup(M), Pallav Gopal Jha, has ordered the National Road Authority to set up traffic barricades, speed backers etc., within two to three days. Jha has asked to set up these barriers in front of high accident-prone areas like Khanapara, Jorabat etc.
Jha has further asked the officials to investigate the causes of road accidents by visiting road accident sites personally. He has asked officials to take strict actions against riders in two-wheelers without a helmet.

He has asked the transport department to provide phone numbers to raise complaints. Jha has urged the district health department to set up a trauma centre for the survivors of road accidents.
Moreover, the Deputy Commissioner urged authorities to ensure that drivers do not take alcohol while driving vehicles during picnic days ahead of New Year celebrations.
The meeting was attended by different officials from various departments of the state. The officials were from the forest departments, health departments, administration departments, transport departments, etc.
