Policeman brutally attacked by miscreants, try to set him on fire after scuffle in Guwahati pub

Digital Desk: In a shocking incident, miscreants launched a brutal attack on on-duty police personnel from the Basistha police station that unfolded in the midnight hours on Sunday, leaving the city of Guwahati in a state of shock and disbelief.

The incident occurred on Basistha Road, where the owner of THE ECHO Pub & Grill is accused of inciting a violent attack on Pradeep Basumatary, a police officer.

 

The cop was reportedly beaten and doused with engine oil during the assault, and then there was an arson attempt.

 

The motive behind the attack seems to be linked to recent actions taken by the Basistha police against the PUB. According to reports, the facility was staying open late into the night in violation of regulations, essentially running as a liquor den. The Basistha police arrested two people as a result of this disrespect. 

Before the attack, there had been an increase in tensions around the PUB, with violent occurrences occurring, such as someone setting a two-wheeler on fire. Locals have voiced their grievances, highlighting the persistent issue of the bar operating beyond permissible hours.

 

Concerns have been raised concerning the efficacy of the State Excise Department due to questions being raised about who is responsible for enabling such operations to continue undetected.

 

Following this shocking incident, there is increasing expectation as to what steps the relevant authorities—especially the Excise Department—will take to address the egregious infractions and guarantee responsibility following this horrific attack on state police officers.
