Digital Desk: In a resounding victory, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has swept the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) elections in Assam, securing an absolute majority with 25 out of the 28 seats. The main rival, Congress, faced a humiliating defeat, failing to secure a single seat.

The celebrations in Haflong were palpable as BJP workers jubilantly marked their massive triumph. The counting of votes commenced at Haflong Don Bosco Higher Secondary School and unfolded with BJP candidates dominating the contested constituencies.

Out of the 28 constituencies, elections were held in 22, as BJP candidates had already emerged victorious in 6 uncontested constituencies. The BJP's unstoppable momentum led to victories in 12 out of the 22 contested areas, solidifying their control over 25 constituencies.

This landslide win positions the BJP to retain power in the NCHAC, and incumbent Chief Executive Member (CEM) Debolal Gorlosa is poised to return as the head of the hill council, confirming Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's earlier statements to the media.

The clean sweep not only underscores BJP's political dominance in the region but also highlights the significant challenges faced by the Congress party in Assam.
