Digital Desk: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday attended the inaugural day of the two-day conference of superintendents of police (SP) in Bongaigaon.

The SP conference began on Friday at the newly constructed Assam Police convention center in Bongaigaon.

The chief minister signed agreements (MoUs) with Microsoft, the National Cyber Peace Foundation, and the India Future Foundation during the conference.

Additionally, CM Sarma unveiled the new logos for the Special Task Force (STF) and Village Defence Organization (VDO).

The Assam CM also introduced the M-Passport application for the same, which will make it simpler for the people of the state to get their passports verified.

During the SP conference, CM Sarma went on to virtually inaugurate two cyber police stations. The CID headquarters has a Cyber Crime Police Station with statewide jurisdiction, while the Guwahati City Commissionerate has a Cyber Crime Police Station with Guwahati City jurisdiction.

Moreover, the CID Cyber police station would include two cyber outposts: one in Silchar for the Barak Valley areas and one in Dibrugarh for the upper Assam districts.

The Cyber Police Stations and Cyber Outposts have been equipped with sophisticated Cyber Forensic tools like mobile data extraction tools, image, and video enhancement tools, high-end workstations, password recovery software, cryptocurrency chain analysis, mobile phone unlocking tools, disk duplicators, etc.

The National Cyber Crime Training Centre in New Delhi, NIELIT Khanapara, and CID headquarters have all been used to recruit and train investigating officers with technological expertise and a flair for cybercrime investigation. These trained Investigating Officers (IOs) have been posted in these newly inaugurated Cyber Police Stations and Cyber Outposts. This will go a long way toward enhancing Assam's infrastructure and increasing its capacity to combat cybercrime.
