Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal to inaugurate projects worth Rs 254 cr at Guwahati today

Digital Desk: Union Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal will inaugurate crucial projects worth over Rs. 254 crore at Pandu Port, Guwahati today, in a major step towards driving the Inland Water Transport (IWT) sector and improving connectivity in the North Eastern Region. 

The Passenger-cum-Cargo Terminal at Bogibeel, worth Rs. 46.60 crore, the Inland Water Transport Terminal at Sonamura, worth Rs. 6.91 crore, and the Upgraded Terminal at Karimganj and Badarpur, worth Rs. 6.40 crore, will all be inaugurated by Sonowal.

He will also inaugurate 19 passenger vessels for National Waterway-2 and National Waterway-16 costing Rs. 25 crore, six jetties at various sites along the River Brahmaputra worth Rs. 8.45 crore, and an extension of the Jetty, an integrated office, and bank protection for Rs. 30 crore during the occasion. 

These infrastructure projects are expected to greatly increase connectivity in the Northeast, allowing for more efficient transportation of both people and goods. 

Along these inaugurations, the government's dedication to expediting administrative procedures and advancing infrastructure development in the area will be highlighted by the laying of the foundation stone for the IWAI Dhubri Office Complex, which is expected to cost Rs. 7.50 crore and house Immigration and Customs. 

Atul Bora, MLA, Dispur; Ramendra Narayan Kalita, MLA, Guwahati West; Queen Oja, Member of Parliament, Guwahati; and Shri Parimal Suklabaidya, Minister of Transport, Fisheries & Excise, Government of Assam, would all be present at the event. 

The other dignitaries will participate digitally in the inauguration. Rameswar Teli, Minister of State for Petroleum & Natural Gas, Labour & Employment, Shri Prasanta Phukan, MLA, Dibrugarh, Shri Chakradhar Gogoi, MLA, Moran, Ponakan Baruah, MLA, Chabua will be joining virtually from Dibrugarh.
