Digital Desk: On Monday night, Assam police detained six alleged drug peddlers in Guwahati, including three residents of Manipur's Churachandpur, with heroin worth Rs 18 crore in their possession.
The state police force's Special Task Force (STF) began a search operation throughout several parts of Guwahati based on specific intel and confiscated the narcotic drugs from a vehicle in the Amingaon region.
CM Himanta Biswa Sarma praised Assam Police on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), and he stated, "Good job Assam police."
The operation was led by DIG Dr Parthasarathi Mahanta and Kamrup district additional superintendent of police Kalyan Kumar Pathak, according to senior Assam Police officers.
Samingon Doungel (29), Gogou Haokip (37), Haopu Singson (43), Inamul Ali (32), Khalilur Rahman, and Abdul Ali have been arrested.
Doungel is a resident of Zionveng village in the Churachandpur district of Manipur, whereas Gogou Haokip and Haopu Singson are from surrounding villages in the same district.
The remaining three are from Assam. Inamul Ali is from the Darrang district's Sipajhar region, while Khalilur Rahman and Abdul Ali are from the Kamrup district.
According to the police, the shipment was headed for West Bengal and arrived from Manipur via Mizoram and the Barak Valley region of Assam.
The arrested individuals are being questioned, according to Pathak, who informed HT that they are looking into the situation.
