    Smuggling of narcotic drug continues unabated in Assam despite government’s zero-tolerance policy

    GUWAHATI: Despite the Assam government’s zero-tolerance policy on trade and consumption of narcotic drugs, smuggling of the contraband continues unabated in the state.





    In one such crackdown, the Fatasil Ambari police staff led by ACP Azara, intercepted one Pintu Ray, son of Binod Chandra Ray of Jyotikuchi area here, and recovered 42.41 gms heroin from his possession.





    The police apprehended one Md Nur Islam hailing from Darrang on Sunday morning by CGPD at Lakhtokia and recovered one packet of heroin, weighing 15 grams, eight plastic vials filled with heroin, Rs 6000 cash, three mobile phones, three syringes, and 140 empty plastic vials.





    On Friday, the crime branch conducted an operation along with Jalukbari police staff near Nambari, and apprehended three drug peddlers identified as Mustafa Ahmed, Riyajudin Ahmed of Hajo, and Pranjal Kumar Das of Jalukbari and seized 24 gms of brown sugar, Rs 1700 cash, and a Maruti swift vehicle.





    In its previous operation, the Central Guwahati Police District Special Squad and Chandmari PS Staff succeeded in arresting another drug trafficker in Guwahati. 





    While investigating Chandmari PS Case no. 571/2021, yesterday, four people were arrested with heroin.





    The operation headed to the arrest of one Karan Das (23yrs, S/O Tinkumoni Das, R/O Jyotikuchi) near Sankar Hotel in PS Fatasil Ambari area. It has seized 23 packages of heroin and cash Rs 7,05,860 from his possession.





    The team further arrested one Sargam Das (28yrs, S/O Binoy Das, R/O Panjabari Batahghuli, PS Satgaon) and recovered another 12 packets of heroin along with Rs 12,000 cash from his possession.
