Digital Desk: Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has taken a significant step towards sustainable development by announcing the mandatory inclusion of solar rooftops in all new real estate projects. This move is in line with the state's budget provisions, aiming to create a practical roadmap for sustainable growth and employment opportunities.

Sarma emphasized the importance of solar energy, stating that anyone developing real estate projects in Assam must incorporate solar rooftops. This aligns with the Prime Minister's focus on solar energy, making it a crucial aspect of the state's development strategy.

The initiative necessitates the development of infrastructure such as solar power plants for energy generation and an electrical grid for power distribution. Solar energy, known for its environmental friendliness, becomes a clean energy source without emitting air or water pollutants when harnessed through solar panels.

The installation of rooftop solar structures requires approximately 100 square feet of shade-free roof area per kilowatt capacity, ensuring efficient operation of solar photovoltaic systems. These systems can be integrated into existing roofs as solar shingles or may require complete roof replacements, depending on design and technology.

Assam's progressive policy reflects a broader regional trend towards embracing renewable energy solutions. By mandating solar rooftops, the state aims to contribute to India's overall efforts in reducing carbon emissions and promoting green energy.

This initiative positions Assam as a key player in fostering a more sustainable future and aligns with global priorities for combating climate change.
