Digital Desk: Suspended ACS officer Sukanya Borah was arrested on Thursday by the Chief Minister's (CM) Special Vigilance Cell (SVC) in relation to the Assam MPLAD scam.

Notably, Borah, the Additional District Commissioner (ADC) of the Kamrup Metro district, had already been interrogated multiple times by the CM's Special Vigilance Cell on the scam.

Sukanya Borah has been charged with amassing properties in the names of family members and relatives that are out of proportion to her income. Before the investigative team, the contaminated officer's aunt had claimed that Bora had acquired the property by falsely portraying her mother as mentally ill.
Sukanya Bora is the owner of a huge property in Guwahati, Morigaon, Hajo, and North Guwahati, among others.

It needs to be mentioned that Sukanya Borah was suspended in March 2023 for suspected irregularities in carrying out projects funded by the Members of Parliament Local Area Development (MPLAD) fund. The Gauhati High Court denied Borah's plea for anticipatory bail in connection with the case in May.

Additionally, retired PWD engineer Samed Ali and Deputy Conservator of Forests Bhaskar Deka have been arrested in addition to Sukanya Bora. The two were called in for questioning earlier today by the Special Vigilance Cell of the CM. However, they were detained as they refused to cooperate with the authorities.

According to reports, money from Rajya Sabha MP Ajit Kumar Bhuyan’s MPLAD fund was assigned for building a road in the Barpeta district of Assam. But the payment was received before seventy-five percent of the work was completed.

The CM's Special Vigilance cell investigated the affair and found that four suspended officers had approved the payment before the road work was 75 percent complete.
