The state government will start sex-sorted artificial insemination to get only Cows, no Bulls: Assam

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma during the ongoing Assam assembly announced that the state government will start artificial insemination in cows using sex-sorted semen instead of the natural process so that the gender of the calf can be pre-determined.

This move has been taken to raise only breeds of cows and no bulls so that the production of milk will be more in the state which is a dire need of the people said by the Assam CM.
“The veterinary department has told me that we can go for artificial insemination in cattle using sex-sorted semen. This would mean that 10 to 20 later, the cattle breed will be only cows and no bulls.” said the CM Sarma.

Stressing back to the Hindu tradition and ancient history CM Sarma stated that there are references of Kamdhenu (female cattle); from which human beings are benefitted from cow’s produce milk.

Adding to it the CM said there is a need to have cows rather than bulls as there is a tendency among the people to give away bulls to slaughterhouses. Moreover, cow shelters will be opened in tea gardens areas to keep seized cattle safely, and the cow dung can be used as organic manure.

Already, the Assam government has tabled the Assam Cattle Preservation Bill, 2021, which will regulate slaughter, consumption and transportation of cattle in the state.
