    Three Different Variants of Covid-19 Detected in Mizoram

    Aizwal: Three different variants of coronavirus have been detected among 75 new cases in Mizoram, State nodal officer and an official spokesperson said.





    State nodal officer and official spokesperson on covid-19 Dr Pachuau Lalmalsawma stated, “73 cases of highly transmissible Delta variant (B.1.617.2), and one each case of United Kingdom’s Alpha (B.1.1.7) and Eta (B.1.525) variants were found from 100 samples through whole-genome sequencing.”





    Reportedly, in June this year, the samples were sent to the National Institute of Biomedical Genomics (NIBMG), Kalyani in West Bengal.





    Moreover, of the 73 cases of Delta variant, 56 were reported from Aizwal districts, nine from Lunglei district, five from Kolasib district and three from Serchhip district, both Alpha and Eta variants had been detected from Aizwal district as per the official report.





    Dr Lalmalsawma said on July 15, 150 samples were sent to NIBMG and we are waiting for the results.





    Further, Stressing about the government works Dr Lalmalsawma said the government is making efforts to find out the presence of any other variant of covid-19 in the state.





    According to Dr Lalmalsawma, the mortality rate among the patients infected with Delta variants is 0.1 per cent, 2 per cent for the Alpha variant and 2.7 per cent for the Eta variant.
