    Digital Desk: In the last 24 hours, Assam endured severe rain and disastrous hailstorms in multiple areas of the state, including Tinsukia and Hojai districts.

    According to an Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) report, a catastrophic storm last night affected 41,410 people in 144 villages spread over seven districts.

    The seven districts are Hailakandi, Tinsukia, Hojai, Goalpara, Cachar, Dhubri, and Bongaigaon.

    Of the 41,410 persons afflicted, 37,182 from Assam's Tinsukia district were affected in 54 villages, with two deaths reported from the district.

    Although no reports of agricultural loss have been received in the last 24 hours, as many as 675 houses (both kutcha and pucca) were partially damaged, and 208 inhabitants (both kutcha and pucca) were fully devastated as a result of last night's tragic natural disaster.

    Following this, the Tinsukia district administration announced the closure of all schools and colleges (both government and private) in the district on Monday.

    Deputy Commissioner Swapneel Paul has also given a compensation of Rs 4 lakh to each of the deceased's families.

    Vijay Manki of Raidang Tea Estate and Dev Kumar Thakur of Bordoobi T-Estate in Tinsukia district have been recognised as the victims of this disaster.

    Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rainfall activity in numerous parts of Arunachal Pradesh, a few parts of Assam and Meghalaya, and light rain in isolated parts of Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on Monday.

    The IMD has projected light to moderate rain in a few areas in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya from Day 3 to Day 5, and light rain is quite possible in scattered places across Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.

    ASDMA reported the following data which shows, 144 villages were impacted, 41,410 people were affected, 7 districts were disrupted 15 revenue circles impacted, 675 houses were damaged partially, 208 houses were damaged completely, 5 other institutions were affected, 2 human lives were lost, and Zero loss of crop was reported.
