Digital Desk: Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed sympathy for the tragic road accident that killed a girl student in her 11th grade on Thursday in Ganeshguri, Guwahati. In Addition, he noted that two factors led to the accident: first, the two-wheeler was trying to pass the school bus from the wrong side, and second, there was an open pit by the side of the road.

The chief minister declared that he has given the Deputy Commissioner of the Kamrup Metro District Administration instructions to investigate the situation and determine why the excavated pit has been left exposed by the side of the road.

After watching the video, I told the district administration to locate any dug-up pits in the city. I also gave the Guwahati traffic police strong instructions against drivers and motorists who attempt to overtake from the wrong side. The practice of passing on the wrong side should end right away, said CM Sarma.

In connection with the Thursday accident, an urgent meeting was convened in the Kamrup (Metro) District Administration office earlier today.

The conference was presided over by Deputy Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha, and participants included contractors for the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), transportation department officials, and traffic police officers.

The administration gave directives and started taking action against the sloppy agency.

Meanwhile, Gauravv Somani, the state congress secretary and president of the All India Professionals' Congress (AIPC) Assam chapter, harshly criticised the Kamrup (M) administration for its abject failure to address the situation in Guwahati City.

Considering the Ganeshguri accident, in which a class 11 student from Little Flower School passed away instantly after falling while driving her two-wheeler into a manhole dug by JICA for pipe laying and under a passing school bus.

"The bad road conditions are affecting the entire city as JICA contractors fail to fix the dug-up roadways after the pipe-laying job is finished. The district administration has ignored these issues, leaving the dug manholes untreated. The state government has entirely failed to address the issues as the state of the city roads has gotten worse. Uncovered footpaths and culverts regularly invite pedestrian mishaps," said Somani.

Congressman Gauravv Somani stated that the government has suspended three employees, including the marshall of the Assam state assembly, for sharing video footage of the Ganeshguri accident that was recorded by a surveillance camera that was installed in the assembly building. Instead, the government should have filed a suo moto case and FIR against the JICA officials for their negligence.
