Two ULFA-I Bomb Threat Cases to Be Handed Over to NIA for Further Probe: Assam DGP
The ULFA-I had claimed responsibility for planting bombs at 25 locations in Assam, intending to detonate them between 6 a.m. and 12 p.m. on Independence Day.

Digital Desk: Assam Police will transfer two cases related to the bomb threats made by the United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) on Independence Day to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), as announced by Director General of Police (DGP) GP Singh on Tuesday.

The DGP disclosed that the police have registered 10 cases connected to the August 15 incident, where ULFA-I claimed to have planted explosives at 25 locations across the state.

“Out of these 10 cases, two will be handed over to the NIA. We have requested the Central government to take over these cases immediately,” DGP Singh said.

Singh also mentioned that significant progress has been made in the investigation. “In Sivasagar, we have arrested four individuals suspected of planting the explosives, with one believed to be centrally involved in the incident. While I cannot disclose further details for investigative reasons, we are committed to ensuring justice,” he added.

The DGP emphasized the importance of maintaining law and order in Assam, stating, “This recent incident appears to be an attempt to disrupt the state’s development. While I refrain from commenting on political matters, it is crucial to maintain strict law and order.”

Regarding a bomb threat received on Monday at a shopping mall in Guwahati, Singh noted, “Many major malls across India have received hoax bomb threats in the past six months. We received such a threat for a mall in Guwahati, and as is our protocol, we evacuated the mall and conducted a thorough search. No explosives were found.”

The ULFA-I had claimed responsibility for planting bombs at 25 locations in Assam, intending to detonate them between 6 a.m. and 12 p.m. on Independence Day. However, due to a technical malfunction, the bombs did not explode.

The Assam Police recovered explosives from several locations, including Guwahati, and an SIT has been formed to further investigate the incident.
