Desk: The 23rd edition of the Hornbill Festival was started on Thursday
by Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar at Naga's historic village in
Nagaland.
The inaugural gong was sounded by VP Dhankhar, along with the
Governor and Chief Minister of Nagaland, to declare the 'Festival of Festivals'
open.
At the inaugural ceremony, Vice President Dhankhar, who was on his
first visit to Nagaland, was presented with Tsiiphie (traditional Naga
headdress) and Amula kaxa (Naga shawl).
The Vice President told the audience that India is a place of culture,
and that Indians are proud of their tribal traditions.
Vice President Dhankhar praised the
Nagas for their distinct culture and wonderful history, saying, "I admire
tribal culture. I applaud tribal vigour."
He described the state's natural beauty
as "enchanting," and emphasised that the state has tremendous tourist
potential that must be fully realized.
