    Villagers kidnapped by suspected DNLA cadres, two dead after assault

    Dima Hasao: Sensation prevailed in the Langting area of North Cachar Hills after suspected cadres of Dimasa National Liberation Army (DNLA) kidnapped villagers and assaulted them, resulting in the death of two.





    Sources quoted, the DNLA cadre took some of the villagers to a camp in Maibang and thrashed two of the villagers to death, injuring several others. The injured were shifted to Haflong Civil Hospital.

    The police arrested five DNLA cadres and are kept under police custody to investigate the incident further.





    Police official said, “During the morning hour DNLA cadres entered the Langting area and took several villagers to their Maibang camp and beat them resulting the death of two villagers. Several villagers were injured who were taken to the Haflong Civil Hospital.”





    Notably, a month earlier, the DNLA Commander-in-Chief Mushrang and 46 cadres laid down arms in Dima Hasao to join the mainstream.





    The DNLA operating in Dima Hasao and Karbi Anglong districts was formed in 2019. The group claimed that it is committed to revamping the national struggle and fight for the liberation of a sovereign and independent Dimasa Nation.  





    Reportedly, the group run on the extortion and taxation model and was believed to have drawn its support from the NSCN(IM) of Nagaland.
