Digital Desk: The Manipur government plans to start regular sessions up to Class 8 on June 21, according to authorities on Saturday.

On Saturday, the Directorate of School Education announced that normal lessons for all schools up to Class 8 will resume in Manipur on June 21.

According to an Education Department official, lessons for the remaining standards up to the college level will resume in a staggered way after June 21 because of the law and order situation.

Sources reveal that all zonal education officers under the Education Department have been asked to take the appropriate actions.

Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh announced on Thursday that the curfew would be relaxed from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m., allowing normal activities to resume gradually and schools to reopen on June 21.

Meanwhile, with hundreds of pupils displaced and seeking refuge in relief camps, the Thoubal district instruction Department has chosen to instruct displaced students sheltering in district relief centres.

According to Education Department authorities, around 6,000 children of various grades have been relocated as a result of the ethnic violence that erupted in the state on May 3.

Manipur Education Minister Bashanta Singh previously stated that the department is taking initiatives to ensure the pupils' well-being. "Study materials such as notebooks, pens, pencils, sports equipment, and uniforms will be provided to displaced students," Singh stated.

Singh further went on to say that volunteer teachers will be sent to the relief camps to organise coaching programmes for the youngsters.

He stated that displaced students in grades 9-12 will be allowed to transfer to schools of their picking, providing if the spaces are available.

"If seats are not available at the selected school, arrangements will be made at other nearby schools," Singh said.

He also stated that those living in remote locations will be provided with devices such as tablets for distance learning.
