Rifles, aided by Tirap police, apprehended a cadre of the United Liberation
Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) in Arunachal Pradesh on Monday night. The
arrested ULFA-I cadre was identified as Dwipen Asom, alias Dibyajyoti Senapati
of Dibrugarh district in Upper Assam. Security forces apprehended him near
Noklok village in Tirap district, near the Indo-Myanmar border.
According to reports, the cadre recently
escaped from a ULFA (I) camp in Nepal and illegally entered India. The cadre is
thought to have fled because of harsh living conditions and a lack of
motivation. The cadre is now being held at an Assam Rifles camp in Khonsa,
Tirap district, where an investigation is being conducted.
Previously, on August 26, two active cadres
of the United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) were apprehended in
Noglo village, Tirap district, Arunachal Pradesh 2022, in a joint security and
police operation.
In a joint operation with state police, security forces
apprehended two active ULFA (I) cadres and recovered one.32mm pistol with
magazine and seven rounds of live ammunition based on intelligence. The
apprehended cadres, along with the recovered items, were turned over to Tirap
Police for further investigation in Arunachal Pradesh's Tirap District. In another
incident, Tinsukia police arrested a man and a woman on suspicion of having
ties to the United Liberation Front Assam-Independent (ULFA-I).
