Guwahati/ 15th May’2018 (Prag news Desk):
A group of unidentified miscreants allegedly pelted stones at an All Assam Students’ Union protest rally against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 in Hailakandi on Monday.
The incident took place on Monday when the AASU members had started a protest rally in Hailakandi to oppose the government’s proposed bill to give settlement to Hindu Bangladeshis. The rally was going on peacefully but as the rally reached Kalibari, some unidentified miscreants started pelting stones on the rally.
A member of the AASU was severely injured in the attack and was immediately taken to the hospital.
Even though the other members tried to find out who attacked them, the miscreants managed to escape.
Dipankar Nath, president, AASU, said, “We condemn such incidents and attacks on AASU members but these things will not stop us from protesting against the bill and illegal migrants. Pelting stones on us won’t stop us from fighting against anti-Assamese elements. We will carry on with our protest.”
He added that the police should be more active in tracking down such anti-social elements. This incident was a failure of the police.
He further added that the AASU still demands the deportation of all the illegal immigrants that came into Assam after 1971.
The police are currently investigating the matter to track down the miscreants.
