Guwahati : With Lok Sabha elections right round the corner, political parties and candidates are leaving no stone unturned to make political jibes at each other.
Launching a scathing attack on perfume baron and sitting Dhubri MP Maulana badruddin Ajmal, Congress candidate for Barpeta constituency Abdul Khaleque claimed that the people belonging to the Muslim community in Assam has boycotted the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF).
Speaking to media persons in Guwahati on March 30th, 2019, Khaleque said, “The Muslim community in Assam has already boycotted the AIUDF. They have zero chance of winning the general elections.”
The AIUDF has decided to contest only from three (Dhubri, Karimganj and Barpeta) of the state’s 14 Lok Sabha seats in the upcoming elections. The reason for this move, the party said on March 25th, 2019 was to prevent a division in the secular vote from helping the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
He further added that the AIUDF has caused a greater damage to the Muslims of Assam due to which there is lot of resentment among the people against the AIUDF.
