Guwahati : After Rahul Gandhi now senior Congress leader Harish Rawat has resigned as Congress-in-charge of Assam taking moral responsibility for the poor performance of Congress party in Assam in the Lok Sabha elections.
While tendering his resignation Harish Rawat said that the party affairs in Assam was directly under his charge and thus he should be held responsible for the below par-performance of the party in the parliamentary polls and thus, he decided to step down.
The resignation comes just a day after Rahul Gandhi tendered his resignation as Congress Chief.
“I am responsible for the poor performance of the Congress party while being in-charge of the state. I accept my shortcoming and resign as general secretary in-charge of state,” Rawat said on Twitter.
He added that for people like him, posts were not important, but a leader like Gandhi, who inspired the workers, should continue to lead the party.
A day before Rahul Gandhi had resigned as Congress chief taking moral responsibility for the party’s poor performance in the Lok Sabha Polls. His decision to resign was unanimously revoked by the CWC. Many had even sat on “Dharna” opposing Rahul Gandhi’s resignation calling it a political suicide.
