Guwahati : Smashing all previous world record, a kilogram of Dikom Golden Buterfly Tea of Dikom Tea Estate of Rossell Tea Industries was sold for Rs 75,000 at the Guwahati tea Auction Centre (GTAC) on August 13th, 2019. It is claimed to be as the highest price ever paid for tea in a public auction. It was sold through GTAC broker by J Thomas & Co Pvt Ltd in GTAC Sale no 33.
In the previous auction, the Golden Tips tea from Maijan Garden of Assam Company Limited set a world record on July 31st, 2019 after it was auctioned at Rs 70,501 per kg. The Mundhra Tea Company of Guwahati purchased the tea at the record price and will be shared between their client Steven Plaizier from Belgium and Namah Marketing, a Guwahati-based online tea store. The tea was sold by Parcon (India) Pvt. Ltd, the second-largest tea auctioneer in North India.
The GTAC has recently also emerged as one of the busiest tea trading facilities in the world and has recently witnessed one of the largest volumes of CTC tea auction in the world.
