council also emphasized the need for a holistic approach to resolving the matters.

Desk: The All Assam Employees' Council, at its central executive meeting in
Tinsukia on Sunday, recommended increasing the retirement age of state
government employees to 62 years. The meeting was organized by the Tinsukia
District Employees' Council at the auditorium of the Tinsukia College. Some
other significant recommendations were also approved during the meeting.
Chairman
Dipen Sharma, President, All Assam Employees' Council, chaired the meeting, in
which General Secretary Pankaj Barman made a proposal requesting overall
support in resolving employees' grievances, making the organization stronger,
and settling different issues.
The council
has around 4.5 lakh teachers and employees in the state. Important proposals to
be adopted in the meeting were:
• Resumption of the old pension
scheme in place of the new scheme
• Teachers' promotion
• Awarding earned leave
• Establishment of the 8th Pay
Commission to update salaries from January 1, 2026
The session
also appreciated the Chief Minister's willingness to settle employees'
problems, appreciating his dedication to putting decisions taken during talks
into practice and not merely holding talks. The council highlighted the government's legislative initiatives in
the Assam Assembly to settle these issues.
Some other
key proposals were:
• Raising housing loans up to ₹30
lakh
• Offering free insurance schemes to
employees in association with five nationalized banks
• Introducing free health insurance
for employees in government hospitals from April, with special health cards
• Paying graduate-scale pay
• Providing promotions in the Assam
Secretariat cadre
• Regularizing master roll workers'
employment
The council
also highlighted the necessity of a comprehensive approach towards solving
these issues and was optimistic about the government's intentions to do so.
Also, the
meeting touched upon the issue of granting one-time monetary relief to state
employees during festive seasons.
The council
was concerned about the recurring leaks of Higher Secondary (Class 11) exam
question papers. It called for stern punishment for the culprits, mentioning
the psychological trauma inflicted upon students and parents. The council
requested the government to revisit exam management mishaps and demanded
sacking of officials involved in such lapses.
The council
also appealed to the government to introduce discussions on salary security, regularization
of jobs for teachers and employees, financial assistance, and provincialization
of educational institutions. It emphasized securing job security among left-out
teachers and employees at the time of provincialization.
There were
representatives from different districts who came for the meeting and talked
about grievances and strengthening of organizations. The council expressed
appreciation to the Tinsukia District Committee for organically conducting the
central executive meeting.
