Guwahati: The All BTC Bengali Youth Student Federation has written to the Chief Minister of Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal, to bring his attention to the alleged persecution of the Bengali community in the name of NRC. The Federation has also decried the “d-voter terror” that is reportedly causing great suffering to the Bengali community.
Stating that the final draft of the NRC, published on August 31 is “suspicious”, the student body has demanded a permanent solution to the issues prevailing in the state due to the NRC.
Through a memorandum, the body informed the Chief Minister, the Hindu Bengali has been affected worst by the NRC, and despite having all the necessary documents, many members of the community have found themselves excluded from the NRC.
Through the memorandum, the community has urged the Chief Minister to “safeguard” the Bengali community in Assam.
Citing examples of Bengalis suffering under the current regime, the body pointed to the case of a certain Madhubala Mandal, who had been ‘unlawfully’ kept in a detention camp for over 2 years.
