Assam BJP chief, says Opposition MLAs are "happy and satisfied" with the work of the state government

Following the 2021 State Assembly elections, a few opposition MLAs joined the BJP and later won their respective seats in by-elections.

Digital Desk: Opposition legislators in the state Assembly are "happy and satisfied" with the developmental projects undertaken by the incumbent government led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam BJP chief Bhabesh Kalita said on Tuesday, adding that "some of them may join the party in the days to come."

"Opposition legislators are pleased and satisfied with the developmental activities undertaken in the state under the leadership of chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma," Kalita said.

When asked whether those opposition legislators were from the Congress and how many of them had contact with the BJP, Kalita remained tight-lipped, saying only "time will tell."

In response to another question about the BJP's chances in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Kalita stated that the party would win the majority of seats.

Following the 2021 Assembly elections in the state, a few opposition MLAs—reportedly three—joined the BJP and later won their respective seats in by-elections.

Many opposition MLAs were reported to have voted for the BJP and its alliance in the recent presidential elections. The same thing happened during a state-wide election to fill two Rajya Sabha seats.
