Digital Desk: Assam Finance Minister Ajanta Neog on March 10 presented the annual budget 2025, where she proposed exemption of professional tax for individuals earning up to Rs 15,000 per month under the Assam Profession, Trades, Callings and Employment Taxation Act, 1947.
During her budget speech, Neog said that this initiative will benefit over 1.43 lakh families and boost their purchasing capacity.
Speaking about the tax reforms, Neog said, "We have reached the stage where salaries can be paid through our own resources. This is unprecedented and historical in the context of Assam."
In the 2023-24 fiscal year, Assam collected Rs 22,580 crore in taxes, marking a significant growth of 15% from the previous fiscal year.
Assam Assembly polls are expected to take place during March-April next year, making this the last financial budget of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma-led BJP government in Assam.
The Finance Minister Neog, who presented her last full budget for the fiscal year, announced extension of tax holiday on green tea leaves for two more years, effective from January 1, 2025.
