    Assam continues to be ravaged by floods, affecting 3.52 lakh people

     Flood waters from the Pahumara River flooded several villages of the Bhabanipur assembly chair, forcing thousands to flee their homes.

    Floodwaters completely submerged the PWD road connecting Bhabanipur to Barpeta and overflowed the agricultural bighas in the district.

    "I had borrowed Rs 2 lakh from a bank to cultivate my crops, but the flood waters destroyed all my crops," Nurul Islam, a Loukuchi Pathar farmer, said. He was overwhelmed by the flooding in the Loukuchi Pathar district. Due to the flood that reached my home, the water level rose to approximately 5-6 feet. I am now taking refuge on the road alongside my family. Now, I am completely helpless. What would you do to repay your bank loan?


    Chiranjib, a college student, also shared his grief, saying, "In flood, everything was gone." He described the floods that destroyed his college books and his educational diplomas. He also cited the region's immense challenges.


    Reports indicate that more than 300 families have taken refuge near the Tanaltari section railway line in the Bajali district after their homes were damaged by flooding.


    Currently, rescue and relief activities are underway in flood-affected districts by the District Administration, Fire and Emergency Services personnel, State Disaster Response Fund personnel, and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel.


    Abhishek Sinha, Officer of Fire and Emergency Services, stated that around 500 people were rescued from flood-affected regions in the state.


    According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority, flood waters have engulfed 173 villages within the Bajali District.


    The current floods have affected over 1.23 million people in Nalbari, lower Assam. Numerous roads and dams in the area were destroyed, and many homes were washed away.


    The flooding has caused havoc in the district's Paschim Nalbari and Ghograpar, Barbhag, Nalbari, Tihu, Banekuchi, Barkhetri revenue circle, as well as Tihu, Banekuchi, Barkhetri 203 villages.


    The district government has established 54 relief camps to house almost 16,000 flood-affected residents.


    Two people have drowned in flood waters in the district in the past 24 hours. Nearly 1.61 lakh domestic animals were affected by the floods.


    557 people were rescued from flood-affected areas of the district by the Indian Army, the NDRF, and the SDRF on Friday.


    The India Meteorological Department (IMD) earlier reported that widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to be experienced over Northeast India and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim over the next three days due to the influence of strong southerly/southwesterly winds from the Bay of Bengal to Northeast and adjoining East India.
