    Assam Flood Updates: Death toll rises to 14, situation remains grim in 4 districts

    Till now, 14 people have lost their lives due to the flood. 


    Digital Desk: More than seven lakh people have been affected by the floods that have wreaked havoc in Assam since the beginning of this month. Moreover, till now, 14 people have lost their lives due to the flood. 


    Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) reports stated that freshwater has entered some parts of 29 Assam districts, while the scenario in Nagaon, Hojai, Cachar, and Darrang districts remains severe.


    In Nagaon district, around 3.36 lakh people were affected by the flood, followed by 1.66 lakh in Cachar, 1.11 lakh in Hojai, and 52,709 in Darrang.


    On Friday, four people, including two children, drowned in floodwaters in the Cachar, Lakhimpur, and Nagaon districts, bringing the total number of people killed by floods and landslides to 14.


    Official data stated that over 80036.90 hectares of crops and 2,251 villages are still underwater. A total of 74705 flood victims are currently transferred to 234 relief camps set up by the district administration.


    According to the ASDMA bulletin, the NDRF, SDRF, and volunteers assisted in evacuating 21,884 trapped individuals.


    Reportedly,  269 people were rescued from the Dima Hasao district in the last two days with the support of the Indian Air Force and transported to Silchar.


    Meanwhile, the state government has provided an additional Rs 2 crore to each of the districts of Cachar and Dima Hasao for the distribution of free relief to the flood-affected people.


    Notably, Reliance Jio has provided a free four-day unlimited package for its users in the five areas of the state that have been hit hard by floods and landslides.


    According to a statement released by the company, the package provides unlimited free calls to all networks and Internet services up to 1.5 GB per day, as well as 100 SMS per day to its clients in Dima Hasao, Karbi Anglong East, Karbi Anglong West, Hojai, and Cachar districts.
