Assam Govt Announces Financial Assistance of Rs 4 Lakh to Rupnagar Landslide Victim's Family
Starting June 9, the Geological Survey Department will initiate a detailed geological survey in the landslide-prone areas of Guwahati.

Digital Desk: The Assam Government has announced Rs 4 lakh financial assistance to the family of Moneswar Rajbongshi (60), who tragically lost his life in the recent landslide that occurred at the Rupnagar locality of Guwahati late Friday night.

His last rites will be performed on June 8 in Rongia.

Starting June 9, the Geological Survey Department will initiate a detailed geological survey in the landslide-prone areas of Guwahati.

Minister of Public Health Engineering of Assam, Jayanta Mallabaruah has directed the district administration to take necessary actions in this regard.

Currently, 40-50 percent of Guwahati's population resides on government land without authorization, with many constructing buildings on the hills without proper approval.

Addressing this widespread issue poses a significant challenge for the government, necessitating discussions on viable alternatives.

To assess the current situation, Minister Mallabaruah, Guwahati Mayor Mrigen Sarania, and local MLA Siddhartha Bhattacharya visited the incident site.

Moneswar Rajbongshi was killed around 11:30 PM on Friday after a huge rock and a mound of earth fell on two houses in Rupnagar.
