    Assam Govt Sanctions Rs 50 Crore Package to Flood-Hit Dima Hasao

    Presently, at least 401 villages were affected by the deluge and over 16, 562 hectares of crop area have been damaged across Assam, ASDMA said.

    Digital Desk: The Assam government on Monday sanctioned an immediate package of Rs 50 crore for landslide and flood-hit Dima Hasao.

    The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting chaired by chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma at Janata Bhawan in Guwahati today.

    According to an official announcement, Rs 30 crore would be utilized for the rapid rebuilding and restoration of major roadways that were damaged by landslides.

    Moreover, a total of 590 affected families will receive relief packages worth Rs 2 lakh each. According to the announcement, a total of Rs 11.80 crore will be provided for this purpose.

    Notably, Rs 23 crore of this package is provided by the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and Rs 27 crore by State-Owned Priority Development (SOPD).

    CM Sarma has also requested that the construction and repair work be completed as soon as possible.

    Meanwhile, three additional children and three additional men were killed in floods in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of people killed to 36 on Monday.

    As per the Assam State Disaster Management Authority’s (ASDMA) daily report, at least 2, 90, 749 people continued to be affected by floodwaters.

    Reports further stated that as of now, 401 villages were affected by the deluge and over 16, 562 hectares of crop area have been damaged across Assam, ASDMA said.

    It may be mentioned that around 26,000 people were still residing in 84 relief camps as per the ASDMA.
