Digital Desk: Assam police
sub-inspector Junmoni Rabha, who had arrested her fiance on charges of fraud
last month in Nagaon district, has been arrested on Saturday.
Majuli police arrested her
in connection with a case in which her fiance was accused of "criminal
conspiracy" and "cheating."
Ram Abatra Sharma and Ajit
Bora, two contractors, had filed two separate FIRs against Rabha's fiancee,
Pogag, alleging massive financial transactions between them.
They said that Rabha
introduced them to Pogag and that it was because of her that they gave Pogag
the money in exchange for contract work from the ONGC.
Rabha was posted in Majuli
at the time.
At least seven FIRs have
reportedly been lodged against the officer alleging corruption at a police
station in Majuli district. Among the charges registered, three are
non-bailable.
Meanwhile, a telephonic conversation going viral
on social media is raising questions about her possible involvement in Pogag’s
crimes.
Notably, Rabha was
questioned by police on Friday after her name surfaced in the FIRs.
It
may be mentioned that Pogag, who is now being held in judicial custody in
Nagaon, was arrested under Indian Penal Code sections 120B, 170, 406, 419, 420,
