Guwahati : The Asom Sanmilita Mahasangha (ASM) while addressing a press conference today at the Guwahati Press Club showed their dissatisfaction over SC’s conduct over the petition filed for determining the year for NRC. The ASM alleged that the constitution bench of the Supreme Court has not completed the hearing of the petition even after four years eight months.
Members of the ASM said that the Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi had rejected the early hearing of the petition in the constitution bench. In their petition the members of the ASM had mentioned that the NRC should be published only after the hearing of the case in the constitution bench. The Chief Justice of India not only rejected the hearing but also misbehaved with the advocate representing the forum, as said by ASM.
The Asom Sanmilita Mahasangha alleged, “The bench led by Gogoi had referred the petition to the Constitution bench with 70 page order but now question arises that how can the court instruct to publish the NRC without hearing the petition of the Constitution bench. Question also arises that there might be a political agenda to publish the NRC based on 1971.”
The ASM also said that the non-Assamese Justices have supported the petition but it is the Assamese who has become an adversary for Assam.
