Guwahati : After the publication of the NRC list today, more than 19 lakh people in Assam found their names excluded from the final list of the National Register of Citizens (NRC). Among the excluded names, All India United Democratic Front MLA of South Abhayapuri constituency of Bongaigaon district Ananta Kumar Malo did not find his name in the NRC list, as well as former MLA Ataur Rahman Mazharbhuiya from Katigora constituency of Assam’s Cachar district too found his name excluded from the final list.
Another important omission from the list is Mohammad Sanaullah, the retired Indian Army Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO), who earlier this year had grabbed headlines after he was declared a foreigner, and has failed to make it to the final National Register Citizens (NRC) list. The names of Sanaullah’s three children – two daughter and son – are also missing from the final Assam NRC list.
A total of 3,11,21,004 numbers of persons are found eligible for inclusion in final NRC leaving out 19,06,657 numbers of persons including those who did not submit claims, informed Prateek hajela, State Coordinator, NRC, Assam.
The NRC which took the government 5 years to complete process marred with discrepancies, derailment and scores of protests across the state against the country’s biggest and controversial citizenship process, costing the ex-chequer a total of Rs 1220 crore.
