Digital Desk: A Canadian national was deported to his home country by the Assam police for allegedly engaging in proselytising, an attempt to convert people from one religion to another. Assam police in a statement on Friday said that the Canadian man, Brandon Joel Dewalt was living in Jorhat district on a tourist visa, which expired on January 17, 2025.

Jorhat Superintendent of Police (SP) Shwetank Mishra said that Brandon had applied for a visa renewal, however, police arrested him following a complaint for alleged involvement in the religious conversion activities at the Grace Church of Mission Campus, Jorhat. A report was also sent to the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) in Kolkata.

Mishra said that Brandon was trying to convert locals of Jorhat to his religion by using a YouTube channel. The YouTube channel was later deactivated by the authorities after his alleged involvement in proselytisation activities.
