    Assam Police seizes 400 kg of ganja, 1 detained

    Digital Desk: In a joint operation, Assam Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) confiscated 400 kg of ganja and detained one individual in the Nagaon district on Friday.


    The arrested person is identified as Hasan Ali.


    Based on specific input, a combined team of police and CRPF conducted the operation in Nagaon town and seized ganja from a house owned by Hasan Ali, the area's top distributor of the drug.


    Leena Doley, Superintendent of Police (SP) of Nagaon district, stated that Hasan Ali had brought the contraband from Dimapur in Nagaland and distributed it in the Nagaon district.


    "Today under the leadership of the Officer-in-Charge of Nagaon police station, we have successfully detected about 400 kg of ganja from the house of Hasan Ali. As per our information, he is the main distributor of ganja in Nagaon. He brings the contraband from Dimapur in Nagaland and he distributes this from his home. We have recovered and seized the ganja. Our drive against drugs and NDPS items is going on. It is a big haul," Doley said.

    Earlier on Thursday, in the Karimganj district, the Assam Police arrested two drug dealers and confiscated a huge amount of illegal drugs worth Rs 12 lakh.

    Based on specific input, a team of Karimganj district police led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Gitartha Dev Sarma conducted an operation and detained a four-wheeler in the district's Bhanga region, seizing 131 grams of heroin and three packets of Yaba pills weighing approximately 66 grams.

    Police also confiscated the vehicle and apprehended two narcotics peddlers identified as Ahmedur Rahman and Kazi Alauddin.

    DSP of Karimganj district Gitartha Dev Sarma said that the operation was conducted in response to information that certain drug peddlers from Hailakandi district were transporting drugs to Karimganj.

    "We have intercepted a four-wheeler at Bhanga area and during a search of the vehicle, we have found 10 soap cases containing 131 grams of heroin and three packets of Yaba tablets. The market value of the seized drugs is estimated at around Rs 12 lakh. We have also apprehended two drug peddlers," Gitartha Dev Sarma said.

    Last month, the Assam Police confiscated 92.550 kg of ganja and detained one individual. The arrested person has been identified as Koilash Das. 

    The Bajali and Nalbari district police units conducted a joint operation at Mahtali Gaon in Bajali last evening in response to a tip-off.

    The police team found Ganja in Koilash Das' possession while conducting a search of his store.









    Earlier on August 2, drugs worth Rs 15 crore were seized in Assam's Karbi Anglong area during a joint operation conducted by the Central Reserve Police Force and the Assam Police. Three drug smugglers have also been arrested during the raid.
